Dr Claire, Dr Roger and Dr Shanon are highly qualified Veterinarians and they both have special interests and experiences in small animal medicine, dentistry, surgeries, and more. Our Vets and Veterinary Nurses are highly skilled and we treat all types of small animals. Dr Claire Sheppard
Lead Veterinary Surgeon

Originally from Hobart Claire travelled to completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Adelaide. Claire came back to Tasmania to work at the Burnie Veterinary Centre. Claire likes working with small animals and enjoys the challenges that each day brings. Claire hopes to developing lasting relationships with clients and their companions, but also building her diagnostic skills used to tackle everyday and more complex cases to make sure clients and their animals receive the best care.

Dr Roger Topping
  • BVSc

Roger qualified from Liverpool University and worked in Cornwall in England, New Zealand and Australia, then back to England before arriving in Tasmania in 1972 with wife Elaine and two children, Matthew and Dougal. They settled in Wynyard and Roger established Wynyard Veterinary Clinic and started Burnie Vet Centre in 1975. Following the sale of Wynyard Veterinary Clinic in 1980, Roger has worked solely at the Burnie Veterinary Clinic. Realising that Burnie deserved an up to date Veterinary facility, he built the present one in 1992. Roger has had the pleasure of providing owners with many years of compassionate and professional veterinary care.

Dr Shanon Ngampiyaskul
  • BVSc

Shanon spent the first 14 years of his life in his home country of Thailand before flying solo to be educated in New Zealand for 9 years, where he also completed his BvSc degree from Massey University in 2015. Since then, he has attended military service in Thailand and practiced in a small clinic in his hometown for a year before making a move to Tasmania.

Shanon is especially passionate about cats.

Practice Manager

In 2014 Nicolle, started her work placement at Greencross Vets while completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and in 2015 was offered a position as a Trainee Vet Nurse. Before starting her career in veterinary nursing she completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biotechnology, as much as she did love studying science, she found that upon completion of her honours, her passion faded.

Nicolle came to realise she had a strong love for animals and the prospect of working with them is what turned her focus to studying the Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.
A few years down the track she moved back to her home state and now she have the pleasure of being the Practice Manager at the Burnie Clinic and Is loving every minute of it.

When Nicolle is not busy working, you will either find her on some hiking adventure around Tasmania, going to the gym or spending time with her family and her crazy but adorable three fur babies.

Head Veterinary Nurse
  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

Tammy originated in England before coming to Tasmania in 2003. Whilst in England she started her passion of caring for animals as a kennel hand, then worked passionately with animals at the RSPCA before completing her Cert IV in Veterinary nursing. Tammy loves your furry pets and is dedicated in providing the very best veterinary care with every procedure.

Trainee Vet Nurse

Olivia was born and raised in Burnie on a small farm. She started here in February 2020 and is currently completing her veterinary nursing. Olivia has been exposed to large farm animals all her life, with her main interest being horses. Olivia has a passion for dressage and eventing.

Outside of work Olivia enjoys spending time with her furry friends and exploring the outdoors.


Kelly is originally a Wynyard girl who moved to Burnie in 1997. She started her career at Burnie Veterinary Centre in 1995. Kelly is very enthusiastic, friendly and approachable. Kelly loves to tackle your complex issues and get you the best veterinary care. Kelly is happily married with two beautiful children.


Gill is Burnie-born and raised. A qualified hairdresser Gill changed her career path and started working at Burnie Veterinary Centre. Gill knows and is known by everyone, she is passionate about getting you the best veterinary service. Gill has two children, Elliott and Jazmine, and is a very proud Grandma to seven grandchildren.


Paris joined the team in 2014 and since then has prioritised herself as the CEO. Paris runs the clinic with a firm "Meow" and a quick swipe to those who annoy her. However, she is easily won over with a bit of kibble.
